panel slowing down

There was, I believe, a message on this list some time earlier this
month (I checked the archives for it but became daunted by the 2517
messages for August I found there!) that pointed out that the panel
became progressively slower to respond the longer it had been running.
I think the poster mentioned that it had even reached more than minute
in response time for him!  Anyway, I just wanted to mention that,
since seing his message, I've noticed that my panel is doing the same
thing -- now up to approximately 2 sec response time per click from an
originally almost neglible response time.  I'm just wondering if
anyone's found the cause of this problem yet.

I'm using gnome-core-1.0.9-1.
