MS-Windows supports this as well with their auto-run "feature", 
allowing the autorun.inf to specify an icon for the device. 
Perhaps GMC should look for a .icon first and then search for a
autorun.inf (if on the root of the mount).  Now that I think 
about it.. kde's way might be a bitch to edit, it should be 
considerably quicker to check the configuration file rather then to
recursively scan directories for a .icon file.
