I don't think the suggestion here is to abandon support for "other" WM's,
but to create one that will not interfere with Gnome. I for one find it a
pain to set up my background in Gnome CC, only to have it overridden by
Enlightenment when I restart X. Back in RH 5.2, I had to figure out how
to disable E's right button menu on the root window, so GMC's menu worked
correctly. Icons in AfterStep and WindowMaker (last I used them)
interfere with my panel, and make my desktop more cluttered. It also
adds redundancy, because the Gnome Pager does what I need.
I don't know enough to help produce a new WM, but I like the idea of one
that puts the windows on the screen, without trying to add a bunch of its
own bells and whistles.
