Gnome question? Sorta related, sorta not

I've recently switched from init level 3 (console login) to init lever 5
(X-login) on a RedHat 5.x box.

Now with the x-login session, I'm getting a "xconsole" window that 1) shows
no messages (even when logged in as root), and 2) I don't want. I've dug
around numerous xdm files, .xsession, etc, etc looking for the command that
starts this but cannot find it.

Can anyone help me get rid of it? Thanks in advance!
