Can gnome/Linux talk to a Microsoft Network ?

Hi,
Just a question. Since almost all my  company work on a microsoft network, is it possible to see a  microsoft network from a Gnome/Linux machine??? I know I can mount a Dos partition on my machine, a NTFS (I am not sure...) But can I see the Ms-network?

BTW, I am very impressed by the gnome desktop (it also intrigates a lot of my collegues). Hope this is just the begening of a new era...
