I don't think this in important.  If you have a mail-client that can do disconnected imap you will have all your mail availiable from everywhere.  Either from another imap-client or you could use ssh or telnet to log in and use pine or mutt or any other mail-client you want.  You could even use a web based reader but I really don't think this should be anything a gnome mail-client needs to worry about.  If you use disconnected imap all these system can cooperate.
