Re: problem with self-built-rpm's

I have had the same problems as Richard with self built RPMS. My problems
with multiple instances of gmc competing for desktop drops was caused by a
gnome-lib-1.0.8 rpm which I had compiled.

I expect that the issues are caused by the spec files included with the
tarballs. Unfortunately, I do not know enough about the necessary file
structure for each package to repair or modify the .specs myself so I am
currently tied to the "working" RPMS distributed by RHAD.

I guess this problem will remain until the tarball releases come with
truly workable spec files, but I realize that a *truly workable* state is
sometimes not known at the time of their release. I will wait and see what
the next source releases are like.

I do see the glibc2.1 indicator "__register_frame_info" error when trying
to compile gnome-core-1.0.5 using the gnome-libs-devel-1.0.8-2rh RPMS. But
the base libraries work fine on my glibc2.0 system, so I am not sure how
to proceed.

For the moment I am enjoying a (relatively) stable gnome environment
defined by the new RH5.2 binaries.
