	Why? desktop was obvious to everyone what it is. It is also nice so
that it can be shared between different desktops... For example you can
share it with (No flames) KDE or something else... Everything you have
appears in the same shared desktop... I don't like having more then one
desktop... I am well aware of the fact that you can change where the desktop
is but it is not a good default to have it .gnome-desktop... it is tedious
to type and ugly to look at... "desktop" or ".desktop" is much better on the
eyes/fingers and promotes a standard that all programs can use...

	my $0.02

	I do agree with this:

	 ~/.gnome/
	  ~/.gnome/help-browser/
	  ~/.gnome/private/

	that would be much cleaner...
