GNOME APIs/libraries: are they thread-safe?

Hi, I have a question that I cannot find references anywhere.  Just wonder
if GNOME APIs and libraries are thread-safe (can be called from different
threads)?  For example, it would be great if the UI libs and ORBit support
multithreading.
