GMC 4.5.27

I'm fairly new to Linux. I'm running RedHat 5.2 with Gnome. When I run the
file manager (gmc) all seems fine. However when I try to exit gmc restarts
giving the following error:

Gdk-ERROR **:BadPixmap (invalid Pixmap parameter)

aborting ...
Aborted (core dumped)

I then find large files called 'core' in a variety of places.

Can anyone help.
