Why is gnome getting more propriatary?
Desktop files:
I was quite happy to find out along time ago that gnome used
.desktop instead of .gnome (like .kde)
I also liked the fact that it was stored in a place that was nutral
/usr/share/apps
that way, when kde or whoever comes along in the future, they could start
reading them... get a standard going....
now, they have moved into
/usr/share/gnome/apps:(
The Desktop:
it use to be ~/desktop (this is quick, easy, and standard)
now it is ~/.gnome-desktop (ugly. Yes I know I can change it, but it is not
defalted to a standard)
Session:
use to be /usr/share/default.session (good place)
now is /usr/share/gnome/default.session (y?)
I thank the gnome developers for all there hard work, but if it gets too
propriatary, it gets ugly. One of gnomes great features is that it stayed
nutral. Now it is becoming more and more propriatary... Please dont
start/change it back.
