You meant "run".  Programs compiled against an earlier version should
run unchanged with a later one.  If they don't, something's broken.

Or maybe just to the ABI.  Changes in structure sizes, the numeric
values of symbolic constants, that kind of stuff.  

If people want to reply to this, I'm going to be obnoxious and ask
