recompiling after update

Hi there,

Just a simple newby question. What commands do you guys use after updating 
from cvs?

Do you do a make distclean, remove all the .debs and autogen.sh again?
Or just run autogen.sh directly, or do you just remove the config.cache?
Or is this where the config.status is for?
