A lot of this is mico. This will change as soon as ORBit becomes usable
;-)
I agree that performance is important, it's just that right now we want
apps period - probably some time before GNOME 1.0 (hah!) we'll have to go
through everything and see what we can cut down (glib has some memory
profiling tools that will be helpful, I think).
I know imlib allocates a good-sized chunk of data that could be shared
between apps (it is a per-display color cube or something) - talk to
raster about ways to share it.
