I think the icewm author is doing the patches, right? Are there any plans
for Gnome to work on wm's, rather than letting the wm developers do it?
 
I imagine we should just let others do this, and list them all on the
Gnome software pages along with the other software. If there's ever a test
for Gnome-compliance, that can be applied to wm's along with other apps. 
I'm not sure anyone knows what Gnome-compliant is exactly though. :)

Which wm is "preferred" is a decision for the distributions, I'd think.
Debian asks when each one is installed, I don't know what Red Hat does.
icewm would probably be a really good choice, but there are lots of window
managers out there.

I'm just waiting for icewm to become Gnome-friendly to go fully Gnome on
my system. As it is it's kind of annoying to have the panel for applets
and the taskbar to keep track of windows, since there's no screen space
left. Plus icewm keeps sticking windows underneath the panel.
