IOT trap/Abort - exit for many gnome apps

I've tried a bunch of gnome-0.13 apps (gnomine, gtt, panel) and
they all seem to be exiting with:

** ERROR **: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
IOT trap/Abort

Or if I use gdb gnomine

Program received signal SIGABRT, Aborted.

I'm using linux 2.0.33 (i486, no base distribution), XFree 3.2.?,
libc5.4.23, gcc2.7.2 or egcs1.0.2, imlib1.1, gtk0.99.5, libgr2.0.13.

gnomine successfully calls gdk_imlib_render once and dies on the
second call.
