We should make all key bindings configurable from a central location.
There should be a simple control panel that allows the user to choose
from several different standard sets of key binding (i.e. a Mac
mode, Windows mode, Emacs mode, etc.) and allows the user to make
their own set of key bindings. You should be able to save the bindings,
along with other prefs in a file that can be transfered to multiple
machines. When a user first uses Gnome, this dialog should come up
to allow them to select their desired keymap.
Also, you should be able to map a delete area key (like being able
to hit the delete/backspace key to erase a selection in a text editor
or image manipulation program - hint hint), and jump scroll keys
(space and b come to mind), and an affirmative/negative keys for
dialog boxes (space and return are usually affirmative, ctrl-. and
escape for negative).
