nxterm assault & font size

It's an invasion.

Every time I start gnome, more and more xterms start on my desktop.

It started out as just five or six reappearing when I "startx"ed, but
last time I did I maxed out the login limit, and managed to break
nxterm.

I'm not sure if this phenomenon is a result of bad interaction between
Afterstep and Gnome's respective init files; I'm pretty sure I've
disabled Afterstep's .workplace_state initalization. In fact, I'm
pretty sure this is a problem with Gnome. Here is a sample from my
~/.gnome/session file:

[Default]
0,id=117f000001000089796009400000047960003
0,RestartCommand=mouse-properties --sm-client-id
117f000001000089796009400000047960003 --init
1,id=117f000001000089796005800000047960002
1,RestartCommand=background-properties --sm-client-id
117f000001000089796005800000047960002 --init
2,id=117f000001000089797539200000063250012
2,RestartCommand=background-properties --sm-client-id
117f000001000089797539200000063250012 --init
3,id=117f000001000089802096700000063250017
3,RestartCommand=background-properties --sm-client-id
117f000001000089802096700000063250017 --init
4,id=117f000001000089802481000000063250020
4,RestartCommand=./redhat
5,id=117f000001000089802250800000063250019
5,RestartCommand=xiterm -bg black -fg peachpuff -sl 500 -vb
6,id=117f000001000089797549900000063250013
6,RestartCommand=xterm -title /var/log/messages/ -e tail -f --lines 4
/var/log/messages
7,id=117f000001000089797427300000063250011
7,RestartCommand=nxterm +ut -geometry +153+115
8,id=117f000001000089797427300000063250010
8,RestartCommand=nxterm
9,id=117f000001000089797427300000063250009
9,RestartCommand=nxterm
10,id=117f000001000089797427300000063250008
10,RestartCommand=nxterm
11,id=117f000001000089797427300000063250007

This file does go on for quite a bit longer with nxterms, then
finishes with:

29,RestartCommand=nxterm +ut -geometry +153+115
30,id=117f000001000089795799500000032960006
30,RestartCommand=nxterm
31,id=117f000001000089795799400000032960000
31,DiscardCommand=panel --discard-session
117f000001000089795799400000032960000
31,RestartCommand=panel --sm-client-id
117f000001000089795799400000032960000
32,id=117f000001000089795799500000032960002
32,RestartCommand=smproxy -clientId
117f000001000089795799500000032960002 -restore /home/levanti/.prxa06404
num_clients=33

I looked at the .prxa06404 file, and it was full of stuff about
nxterms.

Could someone explain this behavior and how to stop it?

Also, as a side note: the font in gtop is _way_ too big. There
should be a global way to change font sizes or something...
