In fact, thumbs-up is one of those.  In some countries, it's the
equivalent of the middle finger in most of the western world.  The
"OK" thumb and forefinger joined has a similar meaning (IIRC) in
other areas (Russia?), although it is displayed fingers down in
that case, I think.

There's an excellent book on the subject of taboo gestures that I
can look up if folks want me to.  It's at home somewhere, I think.
