that should work I guess ... it won't deal with the cases where the user
has some weird permissions however (say the sysadmin set up write permissions
to certain directories for certain users) ....

I know I'm trying to just make up weird scenarios :)

maybe doing a check on a per file basis ...

check for writability of the .order file, then allow changing order,
check for writability of the directory before allowing adding new item,
check for writability of the file before allowing changing it that should
deal with any kind of weird permissions setup
