The --init option tells (e.g.) mouse-properties to read its
configuration from the Gnome config database (in ~/.gnome), apply
whatever it finds there, and then exit.
You don't have to run this before running (e.g.) mouse-properties
without the --init option. Either way, the commands should not crash.
