But could it be implemented as a set of small programs that are
registered as actions for RPM file types?

OK, that makes sense.

I'm still working on the help stuff, so I'll leave Alex to have
at it!  Alex, if you need anyone to bounce RPM ideas off of just
let me know.  I've got plenty of thoughts about how it should all
work.
