i'd like to make an annoying, far overused proposal... i'd like to propose
whoever is working on, or even considering working on a Gnome window
manager start with icewm. members of this list have spoken out about its
clean code, simple interface, quick menus, and most importantly - how easy
it is to Gnomeify. so, if anybody is actually going to stop filling the
list with drivel about Gnome wm's, i seriously think they should use icewm
as a base to start from.

icewm's homesite seems like it's down.. you can get the source from
ftp.debian.org/debian/hamm/hamm/source/x11/icewm_0.8.11.orig.tar.gz

even if you aren't writing a Gnome wm, check it out anyway. it's
incredibly compact and fast for what it does. truly a well engineered
product.
