When I try to compile gnome cvs I get the same type of error...it cant find some libraries. Thanx for the input.

I tried  this on gnome-core/libs

aclocal -I macros

it give me to errors about something like
LCMESSAGE/PROGTEST not found

then I copy progtest.m4/lcmessage.m4 from my /usr/share/aclocal dir to 
gnome-libs/macros

after this little hack it worked fine...
