Maybe someone with appropriate sound hardware (I've got a PC speaker, it
goes beep) could take either lotec or recnet off of the comp.speech
archives, <ftp://svr-ftp.eng.cam.ac.uk/pub/comp.speech/recognition> and
massage them into the GNOME system. They both are pretty old, but they
look like they have liberal licensing (recnet appears to be public
domain), and once there is something in place we can worry about updating
it to modern speech recognition standards.
