On a stock Debian box (which is what this is) there should be nothing
in /usr/local and in fact, that is the case.  /usr/local is empty.  I 
would get stuff there if I had compiled and installed gnome stuff to 
/usr/local, but I havn't done that so I feel confident that this won't 
help.  Thanks for the suggestion though.
