gnome question...

a while ago i posted a question about why gnome's appletts seem to run (on my
machine) only while i'm connected to the internet via my isp. someone suggested
that i get the recent version of gnome, which i did, but i'm still having that
problem... does anyone have any other ideas why this is so???
