Re: Hrm. Now I know why this list is dead

Whoa... I forgot I even subscribed to this list!!

>We have *2* desktops in the Linux world, and we should advertise *both* of

Umm.... `scuse me? While I use GNOME (very little) and KDE (for the file
manager) I rely on Window Maker for a UI. KDE is boring and too much like
WinX (Ideal for the new 'end users') and GNOME just plain doesn't work
right. (Many would say WM is boring also)

We shouldn't advertise ANY. If RH chooses to create a 'standard' then fine -
In our case RH is becoming THE standard - but, out of the 7.5 million linux
users we can all say form experiance that EACH user is TOTALLY different.
I've never seen a system "just like mine". Each tweak, each alias, each
application makes our system what it is. When we drop diversity by bowing to
a standard in something like a desktop we loose part of what makes Linux
what it is. Standards are great for kernel hacking, programming, etc... but
to PUSH a standard UI is... well... Micro$soft like.

Don't you think that KDE/GNOME may push out WMs like BlackBox, Window Maker,
Enlightenment, etc... The boom in Linux users means we need to show the
diverse capabilites available in Linux without coding ourselfs into a
corner.

Oh yeah I almost forgot, Enlightenment works like 100 times better without
GNOME beating it down.
