Re: Vincent's article on our end users

Definitely Matthew is a welcome addition to the team. I like what he's done with the article too in editing. Do we have all of our article submissions for the month? Have you proposed who edits what yet? I can certainly propose them if you haven't yet.

Hi all,

Sorry this is in a new thread. I just subscribed to the list after
Thomas Wood pointed out that you might like more editors. I'm a fairly hideous grammar pedant (although I would not claim to be the best user
of the English language by a long way), so I tend to enjoy trying to
make things better.

A "fairly hideous grammar pedant" is always good to have in a journal.
Are you indeed willing to spend some time helping us to fix the errors
our English, and non-English speaking writers make? That would be
very welcome.

And so I've taken a look at Vincent's article and the result is
attached. I've tried to use slightly more formal language without losing too much of the article's character, and tidied up various parts where I
felt readability was suffering from unusual construction or in a few
cases rewrote something that just didn't make any sense to me. A couple of sentences also got removed entirely, as they seemed superfluous and were also proving difficult to bring into shape as they didn't fit with
the surrounding text.

This is easier to read, even for me. Rock! :-)

You may like to consider to split the sentens starting with "An usual
GNOME contributor will use mailing lists, IRC and ..." into two,
thought. Just for perfection.

This is based on Claus' revisions, by the way.

You mean Lucas' revisions. ;-)

Hopefully nobody will think I've made it worse.

I wouldn't say so. Jimmy?

Cheers,
Claus
