So I think the most reasonable solution that can be implemented right now is making Matrix easily accessible for everyone by adding back that .well-known file on our webserver. Then people can try out Matrix using clients like Fractal or weechat and get a smooth experience.

Making it easy to try out Matrix is fundamentally important for the decision process on our chat platform, if nobody can try it out, how are they supposed to have an opinion on it?

Looking at the concerns raised by the admins about having our name on something that's not hosted by us: IMHO that's a fair point and my take on this is that once we have a decision on the primary/official chat platform, we can either shut down the Matrix services altogether (in case we decide to go with something else), move the hosting over to our own servers, or simply remove "that file" again and make our official chat platform gnome.modular.im (just like gimpnet was also not our own infrastructure).
