So I was searching around meetup.com, and you can find things like this:

I did a lightening talk at Debconf, about community management and
about how interesting it is to meet up with people who don't know
about free software.

I suggest searching through meetup.com in your area and see if there
is something you can get in on and just show up!

Cool, I found a couple of medium sized meetup groups in Surat and joined them. But I think I don't match their experience level, so could you please guide me on how to break the ice and talk about Gnome.

I'm planning on doing a talk on Vala, I was asked by a local group
here to do a presentation.  I don't usually do tech talk, but I figure
it is worth talking about vala and talking about how to write a great
GNOME app.

I haven't scheduled or written the talk yet.  But when I do, I will
try to write it with speaker notes so that people here and in the
other engagement teams will be able to use it.

Someone should setup a calendar, so that we can start targeting conferences.

I've added a schedule of known events and hackfests to the Indian engagement page[1]. Suggestions are welcomed.
Also, I suggest if we could create a list of recognized Gnome communities in India so people could join them.

Also, dont' be afraid to go to  places that are orthogonal to Free
Software communities.  Meaning, don't just hit the Linux enthusiasts.
You want to hit the communities that are starting up businesses.  You
want to hit places that talk about education, schools, and what not.
Our goal is proliferation and we are selling our community, GNOME is
just the prize!
