Hi all,
We're planning on modernising Geary's translation and build systems for the
next release, and I wanted to get some feedback on what's the best way to do
this from the perspective of Damned Lies.
The plan is currently:
- Switch UI from intltool to gettext in the next week or so
- Switch the general build to Meson once its ready in a few months
- Switch Help from xml2po to itstool or maybe gettext (maybe later?)
Do any of these require configuration updates in Damned Lies, or should it
just pick up the chances from the repo automatically? If the former, what's
the process for getting Damned Lies' config updated? An email here? A ticket
in b.g.o?
Currently I monitor git and make changes to Damned Lies as soon as I
notice them. If and when I don’t have that amount of free time
anymore, we’ll have to figure out something more formal. But for now
you don’t have to worry about it.
I’m looking forward to Geary ditching intltool!
Also, what's the current best tooling for translating Mallard help docs? Is
it possible to use gettext's ITS support, or is yelp-tools really required?
I don’t think gettext is designed for that use-case. It’s best to ask
on gnome-doc-list, though.
Best regards,
