Hi,
Today I fixed (thanks to Claude to review it that quick!) the word
counting bug [1].
The rationale is basically that a string is quite meaningless since PO
files will show 1 string if they either have this msgid:
msgid "Unspecified"
And also for:
msgid ""
"This is the first time you use the Alternate Tab extension. \n"
"Please choose your preferred behaviour:\n"
"\n"
"All & Thumbnails:\n"
" This mode presents all applications from all workspaces in one "
"selection \n"
" list. Instead of using the application icon of every window, it
uses "
"small \n"
" thumbnails resembling the window itself. \n"
"\n"
"Workspace & Icons:\n"
" This mode let's you switch between the applications of your current
\n"
" workspace and gives you additionally the option to switch to the
last "
"used \n"
" application of your previous workspace. This is always the last
symbol "
"in \n"
" the list and is segregated by a separator/vertical line if
available. \n"
" Every window is represented by its application icon. \n"
"\n"
"Native:\n"
" This mode is the native GNOME 3 behaviour or in other words:
Clicking \n"
" native switches the Alternate Tab extension off. \n"
The difference is quite obvious, isn't it?
So right now, we are able to know how many words a POT file or a PO
translation file has as translated, fuzzy and untranslated.
But don't go to l10n.gnome.org searching for them, that's what this
email is about.
Before starting cluttering the l10n.gnome.org interface with words
counting I prefer to ask here where everyone wants to see them and try
to figure out something that can be as useful as possible for everyone.
Some solutions can be:
- simply remove all string references and replace them by words
- keep the interface exactly as is but when overing strings statistics
numbers show the words countings
- allow users to configure if he/she wants to see words or strings
throughout the UI
- show only words everywhere and keep strings on file pages (i.e. [2])
Please discuss here and also on bug 656938 [3].
Cheers,
