Fula translation: where to start?

Hello everybody,

I havre recently started a new language to translate (FULA). I am setting up an international team as FULA is spoken thoughout West and Central Africa. Now I want some guidance on the best procedure to start the actual translation work. There are a number of po files on the FULA homepage. What do they represent? Where should we start? Given I am not a Linux specialist but just an ordinary user,  I will probably need a lot of help thoughout the project.

Thanx in advance for taking some of your time to help.

PS: Is there a kind of "Quick start" guide or the like?
