As to the failure point, which is a key problem with a single  
resource, Pootle does have redundancies, and will have more and more  
as time goes on. Being able to run your own copies of Pootle spreads  
the load, and the risk, effectively, I think.

Abel, I don't think anyone who is trying out Pootle wants to enforce  
it as the only translation method.

The exciting thing about Pootle, and web-based translation in  
general, is that it gives us another translation option, another way  
to do things.

It's more choices, not less. :)

That's one reason I support it so strongly: I'm always in favour of  
having more choices. :)

The option to work on a translation in collaboration with other  
people in your team, without having to send files back and forth and  
make diffs, can be very handy. Pootle is almost like having a  
Rendezvous network across the Net: you can work together, and see  
what the other people are doing. That is exciting.

I agree wholeheartedly with you that individual teams, and individual  
translators, must be able to make their own choices. Let's just give  
them as many useful choices as we can. :)
