Daf and I put together a guide to translating GNOME which you can
find in the gnome-i18n module. It's in the l10n-guide/ directory,
or there is an HTML version at http://muse.19inch.net/~daf/misc/gnome-l10n/
(must get it on the Gnome site somewhere, unless it's there and
I never noticed?)

For en_CA, you should also look at the en_GB/ directory in the
gnome-i18n module. There is a perl script in there. I don't
understand perl, but even I can see the bit full of:
query_trans("check", "cheque");
do_trans("color", "colour");
do_trans("customize", "customise");
I have no idea how you run it, but adapting that script might
save you a lot of work :)
