Christian just did a very nice page that tells you how to work with
translation GNOME applications, interact with CVS etc.

This page is located at : http://www.menthos.com/l10n/translator/

If you look at the button of the status pages located at

developer.gnome.org somewhere,

then you will see a list of branch names. These will be updated as the
branch names change.
