Chinese character input

Hi,

I don't know much about this, but can you tell me what Gnome does about
Chinese character input?  I've looked at the relevant HOWTO, which
speaks a lot about a protocol called XIM, but I am not sure whether this
is the best input interface for Chinese characters, or whether Gnome
supports it, or has a better way.

Perhaps you could point me to a relevant expert who can give me some
guidance?
