Many moons ago, I made an insane speed-up patch for Yelp and filed it
under bug #115289.  A few days ago, in a fit of mad bugzilla hacking,
Mikael decided that such a speed-up is a Good Thing.  He asked me to
update the patch, and I have.

I agree that the speed-up is a good thing.  The AisleRiot manual is
basically unusable without this patch.  In fact, with this patch it
could even be reasonable to register the entire GNOME User Guide, rather
than registering each chapter separately.

However, it adds four strings: "Previous", "Next", "Contents", and
"About This Document".  The patch creates the navigation bars in C,
rather than in XSLT.  The XSLT stylesheets have their own mechanism for
localizing strings, so strings in C have to be translated with gettext
separately.

These strings, however, are already translated in XSLT.  So translating
the strings just involves copying the translations from XSLT to po
files, which seems like a pretty straight-forward task.  In fact, I'd be
willing to do it myself, but I don't know much of anything about working
with gettext besides how to mark strings for translation.  If somebody
would like to impart some clue upon me, I'll gladly take it.

Also, and it's a slight UI change.  The title page and toc are placed in
the sidebar for a document along with the other chunks.  I'm of the
opinion that they belong there anyway.  Also, placing the title page and
toc in the sidebar actually fixes (works around, really) a rather minor
bug where the first click on the sidebar will take you to the first
section, regardless of what section you clicked on.
