Wierd things for gtkhtml -- Can I trust status page or intltool-update?

Hello,

When trying to merge Sun L10N Simplified Chinese team's submit for
gtkhtml, I find a wierd thing.

## Sun's submit

[lark@home po]$ msgfmt -o /dev/null --statistics zh_CN.po
387 translated messages.

## The po in http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gtp/status/gnome-2.4/zh_TW/extras/index.html
which is in evolution-1-4-branch,

gtkhtml gtkhtml/po evolution-1-4-branch 170 98.84 0 0.00 2 1.16

[lark@home TRANS]$ tpo gtkhtml.evolution-1-4-branch.zh_CN.po
gtkhtml.evolution-1-4-branch.zh_CN.po : 170 translated messages, 2 untranslated messages.

## The po in evolution-1-4-branch of CVS

[lark@home po]$ tpo zh_CN.po
zh_CN.po : 388 translated messages.

## as a reference, also in evolution-1-4-branch of CVS, ja.po was
updated on 2003-08-02.

[lark@home po]$ tpo ja.po
ja.po : 364 translated messages.

## And, if I use intltool-update on the CVS, evolution-1-4-branch

[lark@home po]$ intltool-update zh_CN
Working, please wait..................... done.
170 translated messages.

[lark@home po]$ tpo zh_CN.po
zh_CN.po : 170 translated messages.

The two untranslated are gone.

My question is, with so much difference, what I should trust? Can I
trust status page or intltool-update?

Or it is just there is a string reduction is ongoing for gtkhtml?
