Mozilla, MIME types, and GNOME

Hello there, friends!

I've got a quick question.  Is someone out there working on getting the
GNOME / Nautilus MIME types to work with Mozilla?  I was chatting on
#mozilla today and found that the Mozilla team isn't going to work on it,
but that Mac and Windows MIME types got fixed for the upcoming M.9
release.

Here are a few bugs of note about the subject:

How to Register Helper Application
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61025

please document mimeTypes.rdf helper app database fields
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61408

navigator.mimeTypes object does not include helper apps (but includes
plugins)
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58811

Note that all of these bugs are still open.

Basicly, I think we are looking for some sort of GNOME API that we could
plug into Mozilla so that it could query the GNOME MIME types.  Failing
that, something that could convert the mime.types to mozilla's RDF format.

I'm sorry I couldn't code this up myself, but I am working on
understanding the GNOME framework so I can do this sort of stuff in the
future.  (The problem lies in that we need someone who knows both code
bases, or knows one well and the other well enough to fix this "problem")

Thank you for reading this far down!

Seer Snively
