Thank you for proposing this Greg and thank you to all the GNOME hackers
who are going to work on it.

Packages are really important to a great deal of people (not least us
sysadmins) and sometimes its not sensible or practical to use "branded"
distributions (such as Ximian's).  Getting packaging awareness as early
as as fundamentally into the code (read, in CVS and integrated into
version changes) will make packaging so much easier later on.

Thanks again for the idea - this will be of great benefit and I hope it
takes off.
