nitpicking usefulness of a detached menu bar...

in all of the Gnome apps i use, i don't find it useful to move the menu
bar to the bottom, or get it lost in a floating mess of misc windows. are
there plans to do more with it? would a patch that removed all WM control
from a floating menubar (this makes it SLOW under many WM's) be shot down?
