Why didn't you just cherry-pick the relevant commits ?

And where we would end if I would do that? Take one patch, than other because previous does not apply without some other patches. I did want apply only patches that are required to only make it to work with gtk+ 3.

Again you loose history and gloss over authorship.
If I were a "mutter developer" and would read your metacity 3.12.0
announcement, I'd be mightily pissed now.

If they are pissed than they can write it. I can apologize if that is needed.
