I know about this behavior, and it is a sign for me that we don't have
to shrink images anymore. Regarding the file size: A lot of distribution
packages are shipping unneeded stuff, such as foreign translations, the
file COPYING in an unmentionable count, and so on. On modern machines,
there should be enough place for some bigger pictures. I assume that no
one tries to install GNOME on a 1GB harddisk (excepted live systems on
CD or USB).
