All,
My vote is for the following:
1. Where the action is a default click, for example "Click on the icon", then
there is no real need to mention which button is doing the clicking. Just say
"Click".
2. Where it is not the default mouse button that is doing the clicking, or where
there is possible confusion about which button is doing the clicking, then use
the MB1, MB2, MB3 convention.
3. Just to make sure that there is no confusion about which button is MB1, MB2
or MB3, define the buttons in a Conventions section at the beginning of each
Gnome book, preferably in the Preface. A simple diagram with annotated labels
should suffice, with a statement that the user should reverse the polarity if
they reprogram the mouse for left-hand use as opposed to default right-hand use.
I would also suggest using the Conventions section to define all the Gnome GUI
verbs used in the book, such as "click", "double-click", "choose", "drag" and so
on.
Carry on clicking,
Pat
