Call for Votes: Screenshot Standards for GDP 1.x Documentation

GDP Members,

For the sake of simplicity and consistency to the GNOME/Linux
newbie, the GDP is adopting a screenshot standard which will
dictate the window manager and theme appearance that will be
used for all screenshots in GDP documentation.

Note that while the list of candidates specifies a window
manager/theme pair, screenshots can be taken with another
window manager if the particular theme chosen is available.
For example if the Enlightenment/Clean Big pair is chosen,
screenshots may also be taken with Sawmill provided the
Clean Big theme is used.

Note also that documentation authors do not have to use this
window manager/theme combination. The GDP has adopted a
standard of accepting non-DocBook submissions and converting
them for authors, and will do a similar thing for
screenshots: screenshots which are taken with the wrong
window manager/theme combination will be converted by
GDP members.

The GTK+ theme and font will be the defaults (gtk and 12 pt
Helvetica).

The new window manager/theme combination will be decided by
a vote by GDP authors. GDP authors should select candidates
from the list below, using the criteria listed in the
Considerations for Vote Decisions section below.

Please vote for a first and second choice.
eg: (first choice) #5, (second choice) #3

For screenshots of each candidate, see:
http://www.gnome.org/gdp/screenshots/screenshots.html

Please remember that the goal of the GDP is to produce
documentation that will help "typical" users. Consider the
criteria below when deciding which candidates to vote for.
This is not a vote for the best or most attractive Window
Manager/Theme.

You may vote publicly by responding the the gnome-doc mailing
list, or privately by emailing me directly (d-mueth@uchicago.edu).

Voting will end at midnight Sunday GMT.

The window manager/theme decision will be used as the standard
for screenshots in GNOME 1.x documentation. By the time
GNOME 2.0 is in preparation, we will likely revisit
this issue, as many window managers will have matured significantly
by then.
