Need Pkgconfig help!

Trying to install GNOME 2.2.1 from source. I started off by removing GNOME 1.4 from my laptop running Redhat 7.3. It screwed up GNOME (duh), so I lost GNORPM and had to uninstall GNOME mostly by looking for directories and typing "rm -rf <directory>" by hand until I thought I had done a thorough job. Then I tried to temporarily replace GNOME with Blackbox, which I can only seem to start by typing "startx /usr/local/bin/blackbox", although I'm not sure why that is the only way it works. Now I'm compiling the GNOME 2.2.1 sources in an xterm window within Blackbox in the order recommended on the GNOME website. I got everything up to pkgconfig to install without problems of any kind. Once I got to pkgconfig, though, I got stuck for two days and still can't figure it out, and yes, I've tried GOOGLE searches; many of them. This is my last resort. Here is my problem:

It does this every time. I've tried it hundreds of times for two days, and I can't figure it out. I don't even know what it means. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
