I don't know. I do know Ubuntu wanted to add an --enable-colord flag
to g-s-d, so you might want to check things are running correctly
with:

killall gnome-settings-daemon
killall gnome-settings-daemon
(press alt-f4 to clear the fail whale)
/usr/libexec/gnome-settings-daemon --debug

and then check that the color plugin is being loaded and that there
are no errors.
