I've now added rudimentary support for GCM in the upcoming next release 
of dispcalGUI (changes are not yet in SVN though). If GCM is installed 
and XRandR is working, I'm parsing EDID and also device-profiles.conf 
(only reading) to add necessary/useful info like manufacturer and model 
to the profile thats going to be installed, before gcm-import is called 
to bring the profile inside GCM. This way seems to work pretty well and 
can still be replaced later.
